  Dear Huggybear

I would like to encourage you to see a Christian counselor, sometimes it is good to talk to a professional. Keep praying and keep the faith. There is sunshine at the end of the tunnel. Also try to think of your many blessings and sometimes if you try to help someone else it will help you not to think about your own problems so much.

I would like to say to you and all others that are suffering from any form of mental illness, there is something you can do. As a christian I believe in God and the power of prayer. As a mental health professional, I also believe there is a time when you need to seek the intervention of a professional. I am in no way minimizing your believe in God or prayer but just like you would seek professional help if you were physically ill you should do the same when you are mentally ill. I would like to state here that mental illness is not a character weakness or a lack of faith. It is an illness. Having depression and PTSD is a VERY serious illness. If left untreated you can wind up with a Bipolar disorder (manic/deppresive). God has given mankind the knowledge to heal. Sometimes the answer to your prayers is found in a good mental health professional. Please do not hesitate to take care of your illness. If you need to talk further or any additional info please do not hesitate to contact me. God bless.

Yes we never get more than we can bare but we can bare an awful lot. I went through a bad depression once and it lasted for 3 years. Every time I prayed I pleaded with God to get me out of this and then as soon as that was over I cursed him and then felt guilty for cursing him and then got more depressed. There is nothing I or anyone can say that will help you get out of this depression. Just know that you are being prayed for and you are not alone. Alot of people have gone through this before and made it to the otherside. Once you get there life is so much brighter and you look back and you think God really was there for me I just couldn't see it. I heard someone recently liken our walk with God like a heart monitor in a hospital. If it is straight and flat you are dead. It's the ups and downs that keep us going. God is always there. You will curse him, you will feel as though he isn't with you. This is normal so don't feel bad about it. My prayers are with you and I know that God is there with you even though you may not see it. Some people say to keep a journal and write down anything good that happened to you. I couldn't do that because I couldn't see the good things. What I started doing was just chatting to him throughout the day. Things like, "look at that flower God" or God I can getting really cranky right now and I don't want to be this way .. and tell him why I was cranky. In the end My life was more focused and God became my best friend. This may or may not work for you. Everyone is different. You just have to keep trying. Get out of bed and go for a walk on the beach at sunrise (if you don't live near one find a lake or a mountain stream). Any place that is calming. Just don't give up.

God is with you always.

I have a friend who has just come back from Iraq who is dealing with the same thing. I will be praying for you - that you overcome this demon. Christ will not forsake you - just continue to trust in him and believe that we are never given more than we can bear. I know it writes easier than it is to do - but you will make it through this difficult time.
