Robert (Tennyson) and I met online at Christian Singles Dating in December of 2003. I e-mailed him on my birthday because I found myself home alone with my daughter out for a play date and my parents out to the movies.

I had showed some profiles of prospective guys to some of my co-workers at my local hospital and they all agreed that the guy in the Santa hat was a catch, he also had one picture up of him holding his best friend’s newborn (titled, “just borrowing”), that the girls all thought was definitely a plus.

Anyway, I e-mailed him a quick note and he actually e-mailed back. Our first few e-mails were about books, travel, college, and family. Pretty tame stuff. Then I moved into my first house and gave him my new phone number. The first phone call lasted over an hour and by the second it was four hours at a time.

We fell in love over the phone (some 9,000 minutes in January), and decided that we had to meet in person. So, Valentine’s day weekend 2003 he flew to my home and met my daughter, my parents, brother and family, grandparents, assorted aunts and uncles as well as my church family.

I flew out to do the same with his family in March, by which time we already knew we were meant to be together. Robert planned a trip to Minnesota again in late March but surprised me by arriving a week early at a dinner party for my “dad’s Birthday”, which I would later find out my mom had helped plan. He proposed right there in front of my immediate family, I’m sure you’ve gathered that I said yes. It was beautiful.

In May he moved to Hutchinson and in July we were married in the little church I have attended most of my life. My family started showing up on Wednesday for the big weekend and it turned into a family reunion, an anniversary party for one of my aunt’s and her husband, and our wedding all in one. It was the perfect, sunny, Midwest weekend.

We have had some major changes in our lives over the past year and a half, but it has all been for the better and I can see God’s leading in our lives together. We now find ourselves in sunny Florida and are expecting our first baby together, news about which our daughter is very excited.

I thank God every day for bringing us together and I can only pray that each of you will one day be as blessed as we are.
